Tolls incurred and citations issued during your trip are yours. They reach us rather than you because the vehicle is registered to us — a FasTrak crossing bills the plate, and a parking ticket is written to the registered owner. Passing them on is not a penalty, it is forwarding your bill.
Toll charges are passed through at exactly the amount the operator billed, with the statement attached. A single $15 handling fee applies per trip that has tolls on it, however many crossings there were — it covers matching the charges to the trip and processing them, and it is charged once, not per toll. Southern California toll roads and express lanes frequently bill weeks after the fact, so a toll charge may arrive well after your trip ended.
Parking tickets, red-light and speed camera citations, and any other violation issued during your trip are passed through at the amount on the citation, plus a $50 administrative fee. That fee covers identifying the driver, submitting the transfer of liability to the issuing authority, and the correspondence that follows. Where the citation carries penalties for late payment and it reached us late, we pay it to stop the penalties accruing and pass on what we paid.
You may contest a citation with the issuing authority — it is your citation. Tell us before the payment deadline and we will provide the rental agreement and the trip record showing you had the vehicle, which is what the authority needs. We cannot contest it for you, and we cannot hold payment past the deadline: an unpaid citation escalates against the vehicle's registration, which is ours.
Tolls and citations often arrive after the security deposit has been released. Where they do, they are invoiced to the card on file with the statement or citation attached, and you are notified before the charge. Where the deposit is still held, they may be taken from it. Either way the evidence is on your trip page before the money moves.
Vehicles are not supplied with a personal toll transponder. If you have your own FasTrak account you may bring your transponder and register the vehicle's plate to it for the duration of the trip, and the tolls bill you directly — remove it at the end of the trip. Otherwise tolls reach us and are passed on under section 2.
