Fuel & Charging Policy

1. Return it where you found it
Petrol and electric alike: bring the vehicle back at roughly the level it left at. The reading at handover is recorded with the odometer and the photographs on your trip page, so there is no argument later about what it was. A tank or a battery within a few percent of where it started is fine — this is not measured to the litre.
2. Petrol — refuelling
A petrol vehicle returned meaningfully below its starting level is refuelled at our cost plus a $25 service fee. The fuel is charged at the pump price on the receipt, which is on the charge when you see it — we do not mark it up. Bringing it back full is always cheaper than having us do it, and it takes you ten minutes rather than costing you the service fee.
3. Electric — recharging
An electric vehicle returned meaningfully below its starting state of charge is recharged at our cost plus the same $25 service fee. Return it within about 10 percentage points of where it started and nothing is charged. There is no penalty for a low battery on the road — only for handing back a vehicle the next renter cannot drive.
4. Charging sessions billed to us during your trip
Some electric vehicles charge through an account in the owner's name — a Tesla Supercharger session, for instance, bills the car's account rather than the person plugging it in. Sessions during your trip are passed through to you at exactly what the network charged us, with no handling fee and the statement line attached. Free charging included with a specific vehicle is stated on its listing and is not billed.
5. Evidence and disputes
Every fuel or charging charge carries the level recorded at handover, the level at return, and the receipt or statement line for what we paid. All of it appears on your trip page. Dispute it there if it looks wrong.
